A still from the VIP video exemplifying a virtual experience with the David Zwirner Gallery. |
Enlightened collectors and ebullient connoisseurs following the contemporary art circuit will be delighted to know that the new 'must' on the gallery calendar this year is conveniently virtual. Whether you're pampering yourself in paradise, exercising your off-piste chic, or singing falsettos in the office, as long as you've got web, you've got VIP--VIP Art Fair that is.
Taking place January 22nd to the 30th, the week long fair connects the international art set. Namely, distinguished dealers and virtual gallerinas with enlightened collectors who will be able to view and acquire prestigious art in an absolutely private, crowd-free virtual venue--sans carbon foot print. Fully equipped with a VIP Lounge, customized cyber tours, and instant messaging for inquiries, the venue is resolutely innovative without compromise. Hence, irrespective of how busy or remote you might be, the VIP allows you intimate access to 139 galleries representing 30 countries from around the world.
The impressive line-up includes David Zwirner, White Cube, Xavier Hufkens, Hauser & Wirth, Sadie Coles HQ, the Gagosian Gallery, the Anna Schwartz Gallery, the Fraenkel Gallery, the James Cohan Gallery, the Gladstone Gallery, the Marian Goodman Gallery, Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, Galerie Max Hetzler, Gallery Koyanagi, Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Galeria Luisa Strina, the Max Wigram Gallery and Sprüth Magers--to name a few of my favourites.
While participating galleries will be familiar faces to those who attended the Frieze, Fiore Internationale d'Art Contemporain, and Art Basel, don't expect the chinwag, crudités, and champagne. Without a physical location, I suspect the VIP will be more of an über-efficient acquisition medium that is at once very private, yet paradoxically, open, offering a new perspective on the traditional exhibition experience.
